RE: NASCAR and RV's - advice on first event

You can do this at most race tracks. Depending on the track you choose you could be on a waiting list for year or two. Visit Nascar.com, schedule, then click on tracks. Contact info is there, they will tell you how to go about, wait and restrictions. With two races each at Fontana and Phoenix and not as popular as Vegas and some others, you would stand a better chance at those events. Can also do Infineon (road course) but thats annually in June, hot but really spread out and lots of areas for RVs. Good luck! :)

RE: Air Compressors

Cool timing as I was thinking of buying one to keep in basement while on the road so now I know either Craftsman or Porter Cable 2 gallon.. I have a very large compressor at home but learning larger is not better.. Takes more to fill tank and maintain.. 2 Gallon sounds perfect! :)

RE: Security & crime rates for CG and state parks?

In all my years of camping/rving, only the beer out of an ice chest taken once. I would also disagree and say Metro camping (try staying in big city) is worse than rural camping in terms of crime. As most stated use common sense.. Looks bad, move on but can't say I ever been to place SO bad, that I choose to move on. I also don't worry about it.. Why I have insurance and if its my time well its my time.. Enjoy today, don't waste it worrying about tomorrow! ;)

RE: Motorhome Vandalized

FYI for Southpark its 199.00 based on pre-paying 12 months. Otherwise 299.00 I think. Also based on length. My price is good up to 34. Hope they don't read and raise my rates now.. ;)

RE: Motorhome Vandalized

This happened to me last New Years.. Same thing, outdoor so called secure gated storage with guard dogs and all. Fed the dogs tainted beef (so they think). They use a giant pipe wrench and forced open doors and storage compartments. I'm not about to leave it unlocked so not an answer. Besides person would just vandalize, paint/tag, pee/crap in/on it and more just for pure amusement.. Last year someone had this happen, nothing stolen. Just kids getting off on destruction. I now store inside a place with redundant securities and full service meaning they wash it, clean it and more.. Sorry for your loss! For the cost of storing outdoors, the cost of weather damage every couple years, the cost of paying insurance deductables and the down time inconvenienced.. It sure helps justify storing indoors.. Something to think about.. I just got back from long drive and rig is covered in bugs and dirt. I'll drop it off and they will clean her up like new again.. I've grown to like this pampering.. Plus Motorhome is not fading looking better longer.. Place I'm using is 199.00 a month. So called secure storage was 75.00 but then the repairs, claims not to mention dirt and having to clean up, indoor is only way to go in my eyes. :) Good luck!

RE: Chrome

Dave I'm leaving for LA tomorrow(seriously see my posts) and since I was just hitting off a published article off google tech news this very morning (damn it all I should have just linked but was trying to be cute.. Should have done like creeper, just linked without comment). I would have to do as you and search for it. In what Chrome does depends on what google apps you have installed. If you truly think Google is without fault you do know their is an exploit for Gmail? Chrome is designed to sandbox spyware but does nothing to stop it's own invasion and passing info.. Nothing new, did in past does so now. Think thats why the article was titled "Chrome = Spyware". I have nothing against Google, in fact I enjoy Google and not worried about privacy. Whats archived out on the net already, bit too late to worry.. There are ways to confuse the net though and why I use hyphen in my forum name. The point and concern (link already posted a vulnerability on carpet bombing) with article is while browsers are moving away from same ole same ole tracking, Chrome continues to use tracking to cater experience and sell data to advertisers (business as usual if you will). IE and FF have announced they will be going with an anonymous browser. I doubt it will be full proof but step in right direction at least the intent. ;) Regarding what tools and do I trust them. Mixed feelings. Unsure since kinda old.. At one time hands down yes.. (I go back to command lines, Novell, DOS, UNIX) When I need an app I'd ask my buddies who are respectable white hats although one I suspect iffy (he would back door my system given the chance) but that's rare in fact almost nil today. 5-10 yrs ago I may have used for warez site to get cracked password for a needed utility. Times like that didn't want to be known. Programming in itself is greek to me (have family members who are career programmers). I know nothing about programming. I work on LANS/WANS.. Not software. If nothing else to do tonight, google Chrome in the news and start there. Myself I have to pack.. Tomorrow comes early! :)

RE: Chrome

I much prefer anonymous surfing being featured in IE 8.x and FF. That's all.. Ha-ha-ha! Man you are living in la-la land if you believe this! Dave Dave keep in mind were talking going forward, not past.. I do have tools that let me when I choose to do so now but none are built in to a browser something FF and IE are supposedly pursuing.. ;)

RE: Chrome

View Google news, technology, that was a headline I pulled from there at time of posting, LOL. That was the exact headline... News feeds change to quickly, will have to search Chrome and then hit all articles. Invasive tracking, more than just casual cookie. They make living selling your info. This comes when the other two major players are leaning towards anonymous browsing. Add the fact it works with desktop and indexing, searching your files.. Lot of privacy invaded. Then you can rest assured it will be targeted by hackers and exploited which increases your risk of private info being compromised. A lot like most google apps now, lol. If you like being tracked as in past with most browsers then great. I much prefer anonymous surfing being featured in IE 8.x and FF. That's all.. :)

RE: Lodi to LA via I-5, Places to stop

Thanks! Harris sounds like a good place to stop for lunch! Wayne love the driving directions, get past that smell, and take exit LOL. I'll add a POI entry in my GPS so I don't miss the exit. I may try that other area around 58 on the way back. Thank you both very much for the tips! :)

Lodi to LA via I-5, Places to stop

I normally don't make stops unless for fuel but the DW is coming along on a business trip to LA. She wants to stop and stretch legs so to speak every couple hours. Can anyone recommend RV friendly stops along I-5 heading SOUTH. I was looking at Flying J's website and locations, appears that after Lodi, next one is near LA. Need to find a stop or two in between for the DW.. Thank you much! :)

RE: Check out the new RV FRIENDLY Shell stations!!!

Well this post started out talking about SHELL on the interstate with big letters RV's Welcome and turned once again into something else all together. I for one would like to know where this Shell is and if there are any more out there that are doing the same in helping us RVer's get into and out of Stations with ease pulling the bigger rigs. Me too! Locations please.. Myself I don't care about the cost or where imported from. I'd gladly pay more for RV friendly access sites.

RE: Power Gear hydraulic level --- intermittent alarm beep.

Not an answer to problem but if you have a long drive and dealing with that annoying problem. Reach under dash behind panel and un-snap the wiring harness from back of panel. About every 15-20 trips mine will do same and fluids are very full. Since not often I just unplug it when it does which again is not often. What power gear had me do until I could get serviced once when seal leaked long ago.. Now I do this on those "exeptions" when this happens and can't be explained. Thinking from reading post perhaps my float sticks once in a great while. :)

RE: Any Issues; One Piece vs Split Windshields

Working in insurance industry and seeing claims, two piece costs a lot more to replace than single piece windshield. Never seen "A" loss be treated as two claims and two deductibles ever and going on 22 yrs here. One deductible per loss. Have seen companies only replace the side that is damaged but if they have to replace both, it is still one loss. Then again insurance laws and underwriting very greatly state to state so can't speak for outside of California. :)

RE: Generator Air vs. Dash Air

I don't have answer on efficiency just that I always run the gen and coach A/C rarely the dash. Largely because I rarely am in situation to use it so this is how I give it a work out and keeps passengers more comfortable. :)

RE: indoor storage

199.00 a month, for secure indoor storage that's staffed 24/7. This is full service though. Nobody goes inside with out an escort at all times. Cameras, access card, escorts and more for security and well hidden too. If I need to work on my RV they have a fenced outdoor portion (secured) in which they will bring it out, same place I pick up and drop off too. Each time before I pick it up, its washed and cleaned in and out. Fluids checked, tire pressures and other safety checks. I can have them top off the propane, fill fresh water, load groceries that are delivered and more. When I return, they again clean, drain and flush tanks, open vents and fridge and more. After Sun damage storing outdoors (mostly plastics on roof) and 2 vandalism claims in so called outdoor secure storage, we moved her indoors along with full service so I just play and have fun.. No more washing, cleaning, getting ready etc. So 199.00 for all winter is heck of a deal! I still prefer more service and features these days so I'm just as happy and content. Cost is wash not paying for repairs and claim deductables and other place wasn't exactly free either. :)

RE: Labor Day Weekend

I'm picking up the rig this weekend getting her ready and waiting for you all to return from your long weekend then heading to SoCal for week or more. Thought I'd leave I-5 alone for the the holiday traffic. ;)

RE: Computer Games

Sudoku puzzles are great for the mind and entertaining! Numbers puzzle. You can google and find free puzzles online. I prefer Nintendo DS and Brainage game which includes Sudoku and more. :)

RE: Driving and RV

Congrats! :) 1st step to overcome is perception vs. reality.. You have WAY WAY more than 1 inch on each side. More like 8 inches on each side if centered or close to that. Sitting up so high and not being able to see the lane marker outside your window makes you feel like you take up the whole lane. Next time your driving a car what have you, pay attention to the truckers and notice the amount of room they have on each side. Unless its a private or rural road, lane width is pretty standard as are the width of a Motorhome. Those concrete barriers in construction areas same thing seems like your going to hit them but you have plenty of room that you don't need to crowd the center lane and take mirror off passing another high profile vehicle. In no time you'll get comfortable behind the wheel! Good job 1500 miles 1st time. ;)

RE: Windows XP pop-up adds

Well it depends.. Would need more info from OP.. If he's getting these while visiting a site, then its a script and adjusting his browser settings can control it or Firefox and no script plug in.. Can also use active X and java apps again setting that can be controlled by the user to avoid picking up spyware and more. Lets assume he's working on his computer, not in a browser or even surfing but gets pop ups on his desktop, those would be messenger exploits. Would need to know when the pop ups occur? Yes they would and could include pop ups saying your infected, your computer is slow, you have new mail, or selling a product or service. Messenger is an old exploit so old most over look and don't even consider it. Either way will be curious in the end solution! :)
